DMRCrack

Digital radio encryption research

A research tool showing how weak the simple encryption in commercial DMR digital radio can be.

What it does

  • For education and security analysis
  • Highlights the risk of weak communications encryption
  • Built with researchers in mind

Many DMR networks use a simple voice scrambling sold as privacy. DMRCrack shows what that protection is really worth: using a graphics card it works through the whole key space and recovers the right one from a captured call.

What it does

  • Recovers the DMR basic-privacy key from a recording
  • Uses a graphics card for a fast search
  • A Windows GUI version and a command-line Linux version
  • Works with the popular digital-signal decoder
